28. The Smith Sisters

Timmy Smith was very fond of scary emails and pop ups he could use to amuse his friends and himself. Often times he was the start of a chain letter that would run the rounds at his school just to see the reaction it would get from fellow students and even teachers. One night while browsing for new stories to send, he came upon a news article about the Smith sisters who were murdered one night as they slept.

Thinking up a way to use the story in a chain letter, Timmy laughed to himself and made up an urban legend about the sisters that told the reader of the email to forward the message or die in the same fashion as the girls. That night he checked his emails to see if any of his friends had responded or forwarded the email as he’d warned, knowing there would be at least one.

When he opened up his inbox he found a message that appeared to be from two young girls. They were calling themselves the Smith Sisters and told him they were his older sisters. Confused and a little annoyed, he replied with an email of his own saying he did not have any siblings, he was an only child.

The girls responded in an email explaining that they were indeed his sisters and years ago they lived in his house. They warned him about his pranks and told him they did not appreciate being used in such a manner. Timmy again replied to the email telling them he could do what he wanted and asked the girls to leave him alone. But they didn’t. The next day, he received a chilling message with photo attachments. The first photo was of two young girls with the caption: “Smith Sisters, murder unsolved.”

They told him that in 1999 they had lived in his house. His bedroom had once been their bedroom. They told him all about growing up and about their lives and how happy they had been until one horrible night. He opened up the other attachment. It was a scan of an old newspaper article that read:

In 1999, two sisters were brutally murdered in the small-town community of Oak Harbor. Lisa Smith, 19 and her sister, Sarah Smith, 15 were attacked in their home on the night of October 30th, around 11:30PM. The Smith Sisters were lying in bed when an unknown assailant broke into the house. No one heard them scream. In the morning, the parents discovered the bodies of their daughters hidden in the bedroom closet. They had been skinned alive.

The killer was long gone and no trace of him could be found. Police conducted an extensive investigation, but to no avail. The motives for the attack were never discovered and the attacker was never found. The only lead authorities had was a series of strange emails found on Lisa’s computer. The case remains unsolved.

In the rest of the email, the sisters said that they were angry that the case was never closed and people forgot about them. They were angry that their parents wanted to forget about them too. They were angry that their parents decided to start over and had a new baby, a little boy named Timmy. And they were angry that their parents had never mentioned their daughters or their tragic murder to their new son.

Timmy sent an angry reply saying he still didn’t believe what they were saying. He knew it had to be one of his friends getting revenge on him for the years of pranks he’d pulled. He didn’t believe the Smith Sisters were really related to him and he didn’t believe the newspaper article was real. He told them to go to hell. Five minutes later, he got another email from them. It read: “If you don’t believe us, look in the bedroom closet.”

That was the last email found on Timmy’s computer. No one knows what Timmy did next, but in the morning his parents woke to find their son missing. When they checked his bedroom closet they got the shock of their lives finding his dead body on the closet floor. He had been skinned alive.

No one knows what really happened that night. Police were only able to piece together parts of the story based on what they found on Timmy’s computer. His parents were devastated that this could happen to their family…again. First their daughters were murdered and now years later their son.

Police were unable to trace the origins of the emails Timmy received that night or locate the person or persons sending the messages. On the floor of the closet, the police found a faint message, carved in the wood. It simply read: Lisa and Sarah – 1999. Beneath that, was another carving that read Timmy – 2013.

  1. ok this was super freaky! his dead sisters reaching out to them from the grave since he wanted to use their death as a prank. And those poor parents to lose 3 kids in such a way. The same way. Freaky!

    1. The sisters didn't appreciate being used the way they were. Maybe it was them coming back for some revenge! Yeah the parents have to really be going through it. Three unsolved murders in their home and all their kids. Hmm...

      Thank you for reading :)

  2. Wow..that's crazy. Timmy should have listened to his sisters :( I kinda understand why they didn't tell him about his sisters, because it was probably too tragic for them to even think of let alone talk about. But does this mean they had more kids, and they sent the emails to Lisa and Sarah, or was that just a chain letter from someone else?

    1. He really should have listened! Unfortunately he thought it was one of his friends playing a prank on him and refused to let them scare him. That is too tragic a story to tell your child. But in a way he did also deserve to know, especially if he's living in the same room. The original chain letter came from somewhere else and it just happened to get Lisa and Sarah 14yrs ago. The killer or killers are still out there somewhere!

      Thank you for reading :)

  3. Horrible :( I can understand Timmy not wanting to believe the emails, and sadly, the newspaper didn't mention the parents' names either, so he could have known.. But I guess now he has met his sisters.

    1. It's sad that he was never told or had any knowledge that this could have even happened. The parents well guarded secret was his demise. Yep! Now they are together...wherever that may be!

      Thank you for reading!
