31. The Masked Man

*Sort of long...*

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I rubbed my head as I lay on the icy, hard ground. A tender ache ran the length of my entire nervous system as if I’d just broken nearly every bone in my body. The chilly night air did little to resolve my pain as the freeze seemed to intensify the throbbing between my ears. Fog had started to roll in creating an even hazier view through my narrowly pierced eyelids. “What the heck was that?” I grumbled and slowly pulled myself from the dirt, feeling the ache in my lower back as I moved. “Hello? Is there anyone there?”

30. The Nurse

Marie had just finished nursing school and started working at Mercy General. Although she really loved her job, she found it difficult getting along with some of the people she worked with. They were mostly young doctors and interns who, like her, just finished school and were doing their residencies at Mercy. The problem with most of them was that they enjoyed pranking one another and would often pull in other members of the staff as well.

29. Lonely Dancer

“Evian, come back!” I yelled behind that crazy ass girl. Man she could really move. I had no idea where she was goin’ and I don’t think she did too much either; she just ran. When she finally stopped to catch her breath we were on a familiar trail and I growled when I looked around noticing it. “What the hell woman? Why did you just take off this way?”

“Did you not see that lunatic with the ax back there? Why the hell do you think I ran Ro?”

28. The Smith Sisters

Timmy Smith was very fond of scary emails and pop ups he could use to amuse his friends and himself. Often times he was the start of a chain letter that would run the rounds at his school just to see the reaction it would get from fellow students and even teachers. One night while browsing for new stories to send, he came upon a news article about the Smith sisters who were murdered one night as they slept.

27. The Fatal Tan

*Contains Nudity*

Every bride-to-be wants to look great on her wedding day, and Jamie was no exception. Hoping to get the perfect nut-brown skin tone to contrast with her white wedding dress, Jamie began visiting a tanning salon daily to accomplish it, sometimes doing multiple sessions in a single day.

26. Stranger at the Door

There were bodies perched in the trees. Arms, legs, blood everywhere…so much blood! “Oh my God! Oh my God! We’re all gonna die,” Jemma yelled and continued screaming as we stood in front of the carnage. “We’re never getting out of here! We’re gonna die here!”

“Jemma calm down alright, panicking is not going to help this situation,” Abby spoke in a calming manner to try and get her friend to stop all that damn yelling. The only thing I could think was oh great, just like in a horror movie the scared bitch is about to bring the monsters towards us with her screaming. God; why the hell did I come out here?

25. The Porcelain Doll

“She’s perfect!” Tatum squealed and twirled with her new birthday gift. Since as long as she could remember, she’d received a new porcelain doll every year from a different part of the world; this year it was Honduras. Popular, rich and spoiled she always got what she wanted. “Where should we put you Gabriela?” she looked around the room, finding a spot beside the bed on her nightstand.

24. Kidney Thieves

*Contains nudity*

“Did you find him?” I asked a little out of breath as Knox, Jemma, Roland, and Evian reentered the campsite from different directions the same time as me and Abby.

“No, not a trace,” Roland answered and Knox just shook his head no.

“Well where the hell could he have gone? And he didn’t say anything to you at all Ro?”

“Like I said Dude was actin’ funny I shrugged it off as him bein’ high as fuck and went to bed. I had no idea he was gonna pull a Houdini.”

23. Baby Blue

Go into the bathroom and turn off the lights and lock the door. Stare into the mirror, hold out your arms like you are rocking a baby and repeat the words: “Baby Blue, Blue Baby” 13 times without making a mistake. If you do it right, you will suddenly feel the weight of an invisible baby in your arms. The baby will get heavier and heavier as it grows larger and larger. You will feel it scratching your arms.

22. Where's My Liver?

*As told by S.E. Schlosser*

“Go straight to the store and don’t fool around,” his mother said sternly as she handed over the money. “Your father’s boss is coming to dinner tonight and we’re having his favorite meal of liver and onions. It’s important that we make a good impression, so get the best liver they’ve got.

“I will, Ma,” Tommy sulked. His mother had really been after him since he brought home a failing report card. Tommy grabbed his bicycle from the garage and rode down the street where he came upon his friend Chad.

21. Soul Collector

It was a quiet night, which I think a lot of us appreciated. It was bad enough Chazz believed there was a hell demon roaming the woods but it seemed like Jemma was beginning to believe it too. I sat watching her with Knox and wondering what it was she really saw. The other night I stayed in the tent with her and she only kept repeating the same words over and over again it’s eyes, it’s evil, red eyes.

20. Milk Bottles

She was just another poor, bedraggled woman struggling to feed her family. He saw them all the time, their faces careworn and blank. The Depression had created hundreds of them. He was one of the lucky ones who still had his grocery and money coming in to feed his family.

19. The Lady in White

Isaiah drove hurriedly down a dark deserted highway at night desperately trying to get home in time. Work ran later than normal and he had promised his girlfriend that he would pick up her daughter from recital half an hour ago. “I’m on the way now Marsha, I should be there within twenty minutes,” he reassured her as he sped headlong around a curve. Water splashed his windshield as he hit a puddle and Isaiah turned on his wipers to increase visibility. It had rained earlier and even now his headlights shimmered over the wet pavement as he maneuvered his car down the dark road.

18. Black Aggie

“Welcome Pledge, to Alpha Phi Sigma’s 32nd annual hell week challenge!” Graham started as he paced the area in front of the cemetery gates. “When General Felix Agnus put up the life-sized shrouded statue of a grieving angel in the Agnus family plot in Druid Ridge Cemetery, he had no idea about the horror that awaited any unlucky soul daring enough to face it under a full moon.”

17. The Babysitter

I kissed her; I smiled as I thought back to last night. I kissed her and she kissed me back; it was nice. She seemed pretty nervous at first but that seems to just be how she is, so sweet and shy even when I say hello. I waved at her from across the camp and she gave me a little smile as she waved in return. She and Jemma were busy collecting small bundles of fruit and water that could be carried and Chazz and I prepared to get our stuff tied down and locked inside the cars. Like that would matter considering the cars had no windows in them thanks to our little visitor our first night here.

16. Strange Neighbors

It had been five years and still there were numerous warnings all over town about an unknown man who had fled police custody. He had been accused of committing a string of murders involving the rape and torture of a few women in nearby Valley Falls. Every girl had been warned of the dangers of being out alone at night and urged to stay in pairs and stay within brightly lit areas if they had to go out at night.

15. Bride-and-Seek

“Did it have horns and a tail?” Chazz asked as he knelt down towards Jemma. She looked up at him and nodded her head no. “Was its eyes glowing? Did it have fangs and hoofed feet?”

“What the hell are you going on about?” Zach asked and Chazz stood to his feet.

“I told you I saw something but everyone thought I’d gone crazy or something! I just want to know if Jemma saw the same thing, that’s all. Ask her; ask her if this thing had glowing red eyes! Ask her!”

14. The Funhouse Mirror

“It’s been ten years since the brutal murders of two girls while on a night out with their parents at the now infamous Furling Brothers Carnival,” Joshua started as he and a group of friends stood in line at the ticket booth waiting for it to shorten. “Ten years that Blinko the clown sat in a dark cell at a mental institution for the crimes. He claimed the ride came to life and killed the two girls and he’d just simply found their mangled bodies on the other side of the exhibit, screamed and called for help.”

13. The Boyfriend

God could things get any worse. “There’s enough food for about four more days but I really think we should start making plans to get out of here,” I heard Abby report to Zach as the others hung around the pit doing various things. Roland and Knox had just come back from getting more firewood. Chazz was tying the tarps down on everyone’s tents for the upcoming storm Zach said would hit us soon and Evian was washing out her night clothes and hanging them to dry on a nearby tree.

12. Working Overtime

“Bobby? Hey what’s going on? I didn’t think you were working tonight.”

“I had some unfinished business to take care of; just pretend as if I’m not here.” Bobby smiled lightly and nodded at the body bag. “Is this the body from the highway accident?” he asked as the gurney was wheeled into the morgue. He was just labeling the toe tag of another of his ‘patients’ and pushing her into the freezer. It was a cold night so all of the windows were locked which Mike found unusual for the place. Bobby loved the ‘natural air’ and kept the windows opened no matter the season. Plus it helped air out the room when the embalming fluid was being used; something Mike never liked the smell of very much.

11. The Legend of Bloody Mary

What a waste of some good bud.  This trip has not been at all what I’d hoped it would be when I agreed to come. We were attacked, my Jeep was trashed, my clothes were shredded, my bammer got 86’d and Jemma was sleeping with Knox. At least the rain’s let up. I groaned and moved towards my tent as I continued picking the dirt out of my stash. I’d been able to square away a Forty but the rest of the Ounce I brought was lost.

10. The Honeymoon

“Welcome to Sunrise Villa, the honeymoon suite,” Davis chirped as he carried his blushing bride over the threshold and quickly kicked the door shut behind him as they entered. “Man would you look at that view!” Jennifer turned with a smile before rushing towards the windows as the sun began to set on the small town below. It was just as magical as she’d imagined it to be. A pink and orange sky overlooked a quaint tropical village in the middle of the Pacific that hadn’t yet been ruined by tourist traps and large crowds.

09. The Killer in the Backseat

*Contains sexual content and nudity*

They’re all laughing at you. I know what people think when they look at me; just another dumb jock with a pretty face; all brawn and talent with nothing above the neck. Well I’m an athlete who loves the game, loves the groupies and loves to party. But I’m young, in college and have the rest of my life for that grown up stuff. What else am I supposed to be doing with myself right now?

08. The Choking Doberman

“That was fun,” Andy mused and opened the door for his wife Linda to join him in the living room. They had spent the better part of the evening out on the town enjoying the late night. First was dinner and drinks with friends at their favorite restaurant followed by a little dancing at the hottest nightclub in town. He was beat and he could tell his wife was just as tired as she immediately pulled the heels from her feet and dropped herself to the sofa.

07. The Briefcase

Bugs the size of baseballs! And me without a can of Raid. Damn that woman and her big mouth for sendin’ me out here with these fuckin’ monsters. “Ow!” I groaned and swatted another mosquito off my neck. “Seriously I thought these thangs hated the cold. Why the fuck they still buzzin’ ‘round?”

“I think there’s a small lake up near back here. They’d stay for a while to breed,” Zach answered as he led the way up the dirt path.

06. Roommates

“Haha, Roger just sent me a picture of his dick with a bow tied on it. He said it’s my Christmas present when he gets home,” Lynette laughed as she sat at her desk with her laptop, typing away with her boyfriend. He’d gone home for the holidays as did many of the students on campus leaving but a few strays around the place making it seem much like a ghost town than this college usually is.

05. Humans Can Lick, Too

*Contains partial nudity*

Oh yeah, we’re still here, I grunted as I slipped Roland’s arm from around my waist and pulled up into a seated position. I’d hoped that everything that happened over the last 48-hours was all some bad dream but it seems I was so far from the truth it wasn’t funny. When Ro told me Knox wanted him to go with him on a camping trip I nearly died laughing. A camping trip? I asked him how many black people he knew that went camping and waited as he tried to think of any. It wasn’t my first choice for a break but I’d go anywhere for my man.

04. Lights Out

“Come on Julie it’s only for a few hours, it’s not like I’m kicking you out for the rest of the night!” Amy pleaded with sad eyes as her roommate sat studying at her desk. She’d been gushing all morning long about how her boyfriend Craig was coming down from New York to spend some time with her and that she wanted to be alone with him in their dorm room.
